A.A. MacPherson Co., began its operation in November 1940, when A.A. MacPherson opened a Boston office as a sub-agent for a New York firm. Mr. Alexander Angus MacPherson had been an electrical contractor for twenty-one years in West Haven, Connecticut. In 1944, he formed a partnership to cover all the New England states. His son, Bruce, joined the Agency in 1956 and, in 1964 the Agency was incorporated. On October 28, 1998, the Company entered into an agreement with three key employees: Tom Sabin, Joe Gately and Brian Gardner to purchase the Company. In January 2001, after a long and productive career, Bruce MacPherson retired.
Eleven years later, in December 2012 after a long career in Distribution and the Agency business, Tom Sabin retired. In January 2022 Brian Gardner retired and long term employee Tom Gibbons joined Joe Gately as an owner and together they are moving the Agency forward into the future. From 1964 until 1967, the Agency covered all of New England exclusive of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, and then in 1967 expanded its operations to include all six New England states.
In 2025, Yusen Associates and A.A. MacPherson merged to form the Yusen MacPherson Group, uniting two trusted leaders in the electrical industry. Combining decades of expertise, complementary product lines, and a strong sales and technical team, the partnership enhances service to our utility customers, manufacturers and distributor partners across New England and Upstate NY.
The Yusen MacPherson Group covers Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island & Massachusetts and Upstate New York for its’ successful Utility Division. Our Agency takes great pride in the people we employ and the Manufacturers we represent. We believe in strong industry involvement, and are members of NEMRA, EERA, CPMR, NAED, Electric League of RI, ECBA, NEHES, MECA, IAEI, IEEE, ECNE, NEPPA. This allows us to stay current, and embrace emerging trends.

Our Facilities
Our modern, 30,000 square foot warehouse and office building are located in Brockton, Massachusetts in an attractive, light industrial park just twenty minutes from downtown Boston. We are located off Route 24 with good accessibility. In Brockton, we have a large conference room for marketing and training sessions.
